What are fillers?

Dermal fillers are aesthetic treatments that help to reduce the severity of hollows and lines in your face. Injectable fillers restore the tissue loss that creates these common signs of aging, giving you a more youthful appearance. Fillers are useful for problems such as:

Bellafill®

Bellafill consists of a smooth collagen gel that contains tiny microspheres of a substance called polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). The gel reduces the depth of smile lines straight away, while the PMMA microspheres work to create a framework for new collagen to develop.

Juvéderm®

Juvéderm fillers contain hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a natural substance found in your skin and joints. As you get older, the levels of HA in your body fall. At the same time, the levels of collagen and elastin in your skin are also decreasing, contributing to the development of wrinkles and hollows. Juvéderm fillers boost your skin’s HA levels and plump up wrinkles and hollows.

Restylane®

Restylane is a dermal filler that provides long-lasting improvement in the appearance of lines and wrinkles. There are several grades of Restylane, from a firmer filler that’s good for wrinkles to a softer, more flexible filler that’s best for lip lines and other dynamic areas.

Sculptra®

Sculptra Aesthetic is a filler that helps your body to produce new collagen fibers. It contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which is a collagen stimulator. Over time, a Sculptra Aesthetic treatment can restore the underlying tissues beneath your skin for a long-lasting reduction in the severity of your wrinkles.

How long do the effects of fillers last?

The results of your filler treatment at DC Dermatology vary depending on the type of filler used and your body’s response. Everyone is different, and some people find their results last longer than average.

However, in general, Restylane lasts at least 18 months, Juvéderm and Sculptra last for about two years, and Bellafill lasts for up to five years.
